Lightpainting movements
The technique emphasizes the beauty of movement through dynamic portraits of athletes in mid-motion. In attaching lights to the moving figures, Marsh is able to simultaneously capture past and present motion in one frame. Not only is the viewer able to appreciate the posture and physical endurance of the athlete, the traces of light flowing from the figures allow us to witness a continuous motion in a static frame. The photographic process is both performative and collaborative - the photographer and athlete must work in tandem, transcending the constraints of time and gravity to create an extraordinary image.
